About this role
We are seeking a highly motivated Technical Application Scientist to join our Technical Services team in Tokyo, Japan. This role is ideal for someone passionate about customer support, technical expertise, and scientific applications in genomics and sequencing technologies.
As part of a cross-functional team, you will provide high-quality technical assistance, training, and troubleshooting to ensure customers effectively integrate advanced sequencing solutions into their research and clinical applications. This position requires a strong commitment to customer satisfaction, problem-solving skills, and hands-on experience in molecular biology and sequencing workflows.

Who are we looking for...
- MSc or PhD in Life Sciences (Genetics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or related fields).
- Hands-on lab experience with knowledge of genetics, molecular biology, and sequencing methodologies.
- Strong understanding of NGS technologies, with experience in experimental design, sample prep, and data analysis.
- Experience in teaching, training, or presenting complex technical concepts to customers or colleagues.
- Technical proficiency to discuss experimental theory, techniques, and results in a clear and engaging manner.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to assist customers in a professional, courteous, and solution-driven manner.
- Fluency in Japanese (business level) and basic English communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Prior experience in customer support via email (Salesforce) or live chat is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with data visualization and analysis techniques is a plus.
what you can expect...
- Assist customers with experimental design, product installation, sample preparation, sequencing, data analysis, and workflow implementation.
- Provide remote front-line technical support to customers and channel partners across the full sequencing workflow.
- Deliver high-quality technical expertise and troubleshooting assistance, ensuring optimal use of sequencing technologies.
- Identify customer challenges, uncover their needs, and propose tailored solutions based on available products.
- Coordinate and deliver training sessions for customers and internal teams.
- Support strategic customer accounts in collaboration with regional Field Applications teams.
- Assist in onboarding, certification, and maintenance of Service Provider Accounts.
- Document and manage customer interactions in CRM systems.
- Provide mentorship and onboarding support for junior Technical Services team members.
- Participate in in-person customer support activities, conferences, and industry events when needed.
